Diablo Immortal, the highly anticipated mobile spinoff of the popular Diablo franchise, has finally been released to the public.
With its launch, gamers, and fans of the series were eager to see if this new addition to the Diablo universe would live up to the high standards set by its predecessors.
In this Diablo Immortal review, we will dive deep into the gameplay, graphics, and overall experience of the game to determine whether it encapsulates the essence of the original Diablo series while offering a fresh and exciting mobile gaming experience. So, let’s explore the dark and dangerous world of Diablo Immortal.
Key Takeaways:
- Diablo Immortal is an iconic game that is now available in the mobile version.
- The game has high-quality graphics, good control, and gameplay.
- The rumor about being paid to win the game is true but playing Diablo Immortal as a free player is still enjoyable in PVE.
Diablo Immortal Graphics
First, let’s talk about the graphics. I’ve played numerous MMORPGs and RPGs on both mobile and PC, but Diablo Immortal boasts its distinctive graphics. The first time I played this game, I felt like I was experiencing a genuine Diablo installment.
When comparing it to the original Diablo game, the ambiance, appearance, and overall atmosphere were unmistakably reminiscent of a Diablo game, now enhanced with modern graphics that suit the mobile platform while preserving its core DNA.
Diablo Immortal features realistic graphics with visuals that carry a darker tone, perfectly aligning with the thematic essence of the game.
Control
When it comes to controls, I find them satisfactory. Navigating and executing skills with the virtual joystick and buttons is smooth and precise.
My primary concern, however, lies in the fixed screen (field of view). In contrast to other mobile MMORPGs, where you can adjust your field of view for better awareness of your surroundings, Diablo Immortal’s screen remains static.
As a gamer who indulges in various MMORPGs on both mobile and PC platforms, I don’t have many complaints about the control mechanics.
For those seeking an easier experience on mobile, an external mobile controller available on platforms like Amazon can be utilized. Yet, it’s worth noting that the game remains entirely playable without spending extra money on a controller.
Diablo Immortal Gameplay: What This MMO Game Offers To All Of Its Players
For the gameplay, I have a mixed impression of Diablo Immortal. On the good side, it is fun to play and can be enjoyed solo but more fun and can progress faster when playing with friends and joining the clan.
The only concern about the gameplay was how pay-to-win it is. For me, it’s fine, but other players are against the concept that you need to use real money just to make you stronger in the game.
PVE Main Story Line
The PVE storyline in the game is carefully crafted by Blizzard to provide players with engaging and immersive experiences. Players can explore a variety of dungeons, each with its unique challenges and enemies.
The PVE storyline offers a rich and dynamic gameplay experience for all types of players. And with the game being free-to-play, it’s accessible to everyone who wants to dive into the captivating world of PVE adventures.
The PVE storyline is constantly updated and expanded, ensuring that players always have new and exciting content to explore and conquer. Completing the storyline of the game gave me more understanding of the world of Diablo.
Its main storyline is focused on an adventure; collecting to destroy the Worldstone to stop the advancement of evil, and as I progressed into the PVE storyline I obtained different resources, gears, and other useful items in different rarity.
Elder Rift
The Elder Rift is a hot topic in the game because every player can dive into these dungeons, battling demons and monsters solo or with friends. But here’s the catch: to score a better loot of powerful items like Legendary gems, you must use a legendary crest.
Before you step into the portal, you’ll need three legendary crests, costing a total of $66.74. It means shelling out $66.74 for each elder rift run to grab top-notch weapons and gems. Aside from the direct purchase of legendary crest, you can also get some of those by purchasing battle passes.
If you’re a competitive player eyeing PVP success and faster PVE progress, these items are a must. However, if you’re more into a laid-back gaming vibe, you can enjoy the Elder Rift without legendary crests and still earn regular rewards.
Challenge Rift
Challenge Rift is another PvE mode, just like Elder Rift. It can be played solo or with a team. Playing this game mode will give you a chance to obtain various rewards such as XP, crystals, scrap materials, high-quality equipment, and more.
The gameplay of Challenge Rift is akin to a time attack. Upon entering the dungeon entrance, you must defeat all the enemies, including the boss. If you fail to defeat the enemies within the allotted time, you will not receive any rewards.
The higher the level you clear in this game mode, the greater the rewards you will obtain, including high-quality equipment.
PVP
Being an MMORPG, PvP is always included. There is also PvP gameplay in the game where you can challenge other players and test your strength. If you’re a laid-back, free-to-play player and not very competitive, you can still enjoy the PvP mode of Diablo Immortal.
The only downside that I’ve seen in PvP is if you are highly competitive but want to remain free-to-play. I’m going to be honest; it’s impossible since, as mentioned earlier, in Elder Rift, you will need to spend real money to buy Legendary crescents to obtain a high-rating legendary gem and some other high-grade items.
Legendary gems have different star ratings; the higher, the better, and the more powerful. Acquiring a high star-rating legendary gem is almost impossible without spending money. In PvP, you can expect it’s filled with high-spending players with high-rating legendary gems and items.
The gems alone create a significant gap between free-to-play and spending players. So, what I’m trying to say is if you are okay with being defeated numerous times by high-spending players and you don’t let your ego take over, you’ll be fine. But if you’re a competitive player who doesn’t want to spend money in the game, I think PvP is not the right game mode for you.
Final Thought
Diablo Immortal is one of the most controversial versions of the Diablo game. Many players protest that the game is pay-to-win and not free-to-play. For me, the game is fine; it has good graphics for a mobile game, the gameplay is solid, and the controls are okay.
The only downside is that a free-to-play player will have a hard time competing in PvP. However, as I mentioned, if you’re just chilling and treating the game as a way to pass the time, especially focusing on PvE, I think it’s fine and worth playing.
Game companies need to find ways to include monetization in their games for maintenance and to improve their services. Although sometimes gamers feel it’s excessive, for me, a good game is a good game, and the pay-to-win aspect should not be a reason to avoid trying the game if it’s enjoyable.
We just need to control ourselves not to spend large sums of money and instead, focus on enjoying the positive aspects of the game. Instead of spending a lot, we can upgrade our character by leveling up paragons, upgrading weapons by completing quests, or more. There are still a lot of ways to enjoy the game as a free-to-play player.
